Hospice Care Week 8 - 14 October 2011

October 7th 2011

HospiceCareWeekDHBanner

Dorothy House is joining forces with hospices across the UK to celebrate the first ever Hospice Care Week.

From 8 to 14 October 2011, we hope to raise awareness of hospice care and address the misconceptions that people may have about what hospice care is.

Katrina Sudbury from Dorothy House said:“Hospice Care Week is an important opportunity to challenge the myths surrounding hospice care and show people that it is about living, not dying.

“Many people think that Dorothy House only provides end of life care at the hospice in Winsley, but are often surprised to find out we also care for many more people in their own homes, in day care and through counselling and family support.

One Word Challenge

To mark Hospice Care Week, hospices across the UK, including Dorothy House, are asking their local communities what hospice care means to them – in one word.

Director of Nursing Alison Stevens explained: “Hospice care has different associations for different people – positive, challenging and sometimes very surprising. By asking thousands of people to choose just one word to represent what hospice care means to them, we are aiming to create a picture of what our work really means to our local community, and across the UK."

Let us know the one word that Hospice Care means to you by:

    1. E-mailing us (click here)
    2. Sending us a tweet: @DorothyHouseHC (include the hashtag #hospicecareweek)
    3. Posting on our Facebook wall (click here)

We will compile a list of all the words that sum up what hospice care means to our supporters on our Hospice Care Week One Word Challenge page
