Catering

The Dorothy House catering team provides well-balanced meals designed to encourage appetites and build strength.  The team members are proud to have achieved a 5 star hygiene award. Meals are provided free of charge for patients. The chefs are always keen to receive feedback and patients may on occasion be asked to complete an evaluation form.

Patients in the In-Patient Unit are given a choice each day from our breakfast, lunch and supper menus.  In addition, there is afternoon tea available with a selection of cakes. If medication allows, patients are also offered an aperitif before lunch and supper.

A member of the catering team visits each patient in the afternoon to discuss the menus on offer and to find out what they find tempting and appetising.

Patients attending the Day Patient Unit are provided with a free lunch with a choice of main course and dessert.

Grounds

Patients are welcome to spend time in our landscaped gardens with panoramic views over the Limpley Stoke valley.  The pathways are accessible for wheelchair users.  Seating is available at various points around the grounds. There is also a children’s play area and a boules pitch for use of those visiting or for patients under supervision.

Computers

Wi-fi is available for our in-patients to enable easy access to the internet.  We also provide free access to the internet and our own information A-Z in the waiting area of the outpatient wing.  Should you need help to access this a member of staff from the reception team will be able to help you.

Reception

Reception is open from 8.15am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday.  Outside these hours, there is access to the In-Patient Unit through a separate entrance.

Reception staff are helped at all times by volunteers and they are responsible for all visitors to the hospice as well as acting as the “switchboard” for telephone calls, forwarding calls and taking messages, and monitoring of visitors locations for fire regulations (visitors are asked to sign in and out).  If you are attending an out-patient appointment you will be asked to “sign the register”.  

The reception also offers small gifts and cards, as well as information on events, fundraising, conferences and training.

Special Events

Special events are held at Christmas, Easter and on many other occasions during the year e.g. fundraising events in aid of Dorothy House and Carers’ week specials in June.   These will be posted here about one month prior to the due date so please watch this space.
